October 12th – Underclass Testing Day Information
9TH GRADE STUDENTS - EXPLORE
EXPLORE helps 8th and 9th graders build high school course plans that will prepare them for college and work and introduces them to career options that are relevant to them. It shows your son or daughter:
• areas needing extra help or additional courses
• suggestions for improving skills
• careers that match the student’s interests
EXPLORE scores provide early indicators of whether students are on track for college. With plenty of time before students graduate, teachers can use this information to focus on areas of need. Students who take EXPLORE are more likely to be ready for college. Learn more about other ACT resources for students at www.actstudent.org.
10TH GRADE STUDENTS - PLAN
If you’re the parent of a 10th grader, now is a critical time to talk with your son or daughter about the future. PLAN can provide both of you with information that helps your decision-making process. Taking PLAN is an important step toward making college a reality. It helps you and your son or daughter identify:
• skills and knowledge required to succeed in college
• areas where extra help or additional courses are needed
• career areas that match the student’s interests
PLAN also provides an estimated ACT score—one of the best indicators of readiness for college. And PLAN also connects your son or daughter to more information about college and financial aid choices. Students who take PLAN are more likely to be ready for college. Learn more about other ACT resources for students at www.actstudent.org.
11TH GRADE STUDENTS - PSAT
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) . It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.
The PSAT/NMSQT measures:
- Critical reading skills
- Math problem-solving skills
- Writing skills
You have developed these skills over many years, both in and out of school. This test doesn't require you to recall specific facts from your classes.
